1000 Miles

1000 Miles, originally uploaded by Mark Griffith.

Last year over Labor Day, we visited High Camp at Scottish Lakes. The establishment was originally started by Bill and Peggy Stark and is now owned by Don Hanson. Last November Don was diagnosed with cancer, (but has since recovered) and somewhere along the way I came across something I think he wrote about setting a goal to travel 1000 miles under your own power. That sounded like an admirable goal and so I started off 2006 with that in mind.

The Statistics are :

2.734 miles a day
83.33 miles a month

452 of miles via bike, mostly commuting from my house to work
549 of miles via foot, either walking, hiking, backpacking or most recently running
48 of the miles with Miles, much of the time carrying him
154,232 vertical feet
I lost zero pounds! (There is some cosmic law about how much mass I must carry or something)
But I have lost inches to be sure.

I had an amazing year, I have seen a lot of country, amazing sights and had the chance to take a lot of photos and my wife supported me through it all. At the end, I felt well... tired cause it was the furthest I had ever run in one day and over the course of the last week I ran 25 miles.
